Over all, I think to me it was a good way of learning to play the violin.

I played some Doflein as a supplement to Suzuki, as a kid I started with the Suzuki method. What Lydia said about Suzuki -- that he introduces real music from the beginning, and that it doesn't sound "exercisey" is what I like about the Doflein books.
I found the Doflein books early in my experience with violin and was immediately impressed with: Posted April 18, Reply to this topic I have never seen any Suzuki books, so I can not compare them.
I went trough the books of Elma and Erich Doflein from age 13 to 18 yes, Germany. In my whole life I never really liked "lessons". Your post will require moderator approval before it will be visible.

Posted April 17, I think it's by far the best I know, I know, everyone here likes Whistler, but I think Doflein is more comprehensive and has better music. You can post now and register later.
Posted April 19, I think there is a lot of nice music in the Doflein books, especially the pieces for two violins I always loved to play. Only 75 emoji emthod allowed.

One thing you have to give Suzuki credit for -- he introduces real music from almost the very beginning, and it never sounds "exercise-y". I just searched the Old Posts on Doflein and found only three posts, all three very modest in commentary about Doflein.
It seems by far more thorough than Suzuki, so I'm suprised that we don't write about it much here on the Fingerboard. Display as a link instead. I always prefered learning by doing, so after about two years my teacher added more "real music" as rewards.
